Yuzen dyeing experience
Yuzen dyeing
Create a one-of-a-kind piece with your own hands.
OKADA’s Kata-Yuzen experience offers a rare opportunity to explore Kyoto’s dyeing culture through authentic techniques.
Kata-Yuzen is a traditional method used to create kimono patterns. At OKADA, you can experience this delicate art through dyeing a Japanese tenugui cloth.
The stencils used are hand-carved one by one by skilled artisans. The brushes, known as shikabake, are traditional tools passed down through generations. Each design is an original creation by Kyoto-based artists, embodying refined craftsmanship, aesthetics, and the spirit of Japan.
This is the first experience in Japan where you can engage in the full process and take home your own hand-dyed piece. Through your one-of-a-kind tenugui, discover the beauty of Japan within yourself.
